In September 2021, a one-time contribution of $10,000 was donated to the Harris County Regional Healthcare fund to help renovate the former library building in Hamilton, Ga. CoBank generously agreed to match the donation, bringing the partnered contribution to $20,000.
The Harris County Board of Commissioners will work with Mercer Medicine, a subsidiary of Mercer University School of Medicine, to turn the renovated space into a rural medical clinic. A primary care doctor, nurse practitioner and two certified medical assistants will be on staff to serve the area’s patients.
The proposed services include Telehealth, radiology, lab, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, pulmonology, mental health, school-based health clinics and will also provide healthcare career pathways for Harris County students.
Mercer Medicine will impact over 34,000 individuals who currently call the area home including more than 5,500 students in the Harris County School System. The proposed clinic has the potential to bring approximately $1,000,000 in economic impact to the community in year one.
